Abstract
785,556. Hulling grain. GRIMARD, E. May 2, 1955 [May 18, 1954], No. 12630/55. Addition to 713,986. Class 58. The decorticator of the parent Specification is modified in that automatic devices are provided for admitting and discharging a charge of grain for desired periods of time for keeping it enclosed during hulling, for hulling the grain for a desired period, and repeating this working cycle. The decorticator 2 and motor 4 are enclosed in a casing 1, Fig. 1. Grain is fed into the decorticator from a hopper 5, Fig. 2, through a chamber 6 having superposed base plates 8 and 9 respectively provided with openings 8a and 9a. A slide 10 having an opening 13 is disposed between these plates. The slide has a transverse spindle 11 engaged in a fork 14 at one end of a bell-crank 15, which is pivotally attached at its other end to a rod 18 secured to the movable core of an electromagnet 21. When this is switched on, the slide is moved to bring the opening 13 into register with the openings 8a and 9a, and, when it is switched off, the slide is moved by a spring 20 to close them. The decorticator's outlet 25, Fig. 1, is provided with a slide 22 attached to a rod 24 secured to the core of an electromagnet 27. When this is switched on, the slide is moved upwards to open the outlet, and when it is switched off, the slide is returned by a spring 26 to close the outlet. A control box 28 attached to the casing has a push button 29, Fig. 5, for the motor and another 30 for energizing three interconnected variable timing relays RA, RT, RE. The relay RA closes a switch CA controlling the electromagnet 21 and, at the end of the admission period, opens the switch CA and energizes the relay RT governing the hulling period. At the end of this period, the relay RT energizes the relay RE, which closes a switch CE controlling the electromagnet 27, then opens it at the end of the discharge period and energizes the relay RA to start another working cycle. The hulling period may be taken as extending from the opening of the switch CA until the closing of the switch CE. Signal lamps L1, L2, L3, L4 respectively indicate when the motor is oper- ating, when grain is being admitted, when it is being hulled and when it is being discharged.
