Abstract

A high-pressure chamber 10, suitable for fluidized catalyst reactions involving regeneration, fluidized hydroforming of petroleum products and synthesis of hydrocarbons, fluidized tracking of petroleum products, has solid fluidized particles maintained by gas introduced through 12. The gaseous products are separated from solid particles in cyclone 14 and flow out of the system through conduit 16. Solid particles settle into the vertical conduit and may be scrubbed with a scavenging gas introduced via conduit 20. The passage of gas through conduit 20 is at such a rate that the solid particles <PICT:0785366/III/1> slowly settle into the portion of the conduit 18 below conduit 20 and are supported by a cupshaped member 22 positioned at the base of the column and within hopper 28 which is at a substantially lower pressure. Gases from the high-pressure system and the scavenging gas may be vented at low pressure through vent 24 which is prevented from venting solid particles by wire cloth filters held in place by pipe nipples 36, and pipe couplings 38 see (Fig. 2). The pressure of the gas at the base of the column is therefore relatively low and the accumulation of a small pile of catalyst in cups 22 prevent the uncontrolled flow of particles from the column. Particles may be removed from 22 by blowing with gas passing through nozzle 26 or may be removed by normal transport means and conveyed into hopper 28 and thence to any desired location of low-pressure reactor thus ensuring transfer between high- and low-pressure reactors without using long stand pipes &c.
