Abstract

Leather diaphragms are treated by impregnation with an aqueous or oil emulsion or dispersion of at least one monomeric ethylenically unsaturated compound that polymerizes upon the fibres and fibrils of the structure of the leather. Suitable monomers are ethyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile and unsaturated polyesters; if desired a mixture of monomers may be used to produce a copolymer.
