Abstract

784,762. Change-speed gear. BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AKT.-GES. Sept. 14, 1955 [Sept. 18, 1954], No. 26314/55. Class 80(2). Change - speed gearing for motor vehicles, giving four forward ratios and a reverse ratio, comprises parallel driving, intermediate and driven shafts 2, 3, 4, respectively, connected by constantly meshing gear pairs selectively clutched to their supporting shafts, and is characterized by a double stepped gear 5 fast on the intermediate shaft and transmitting drive whatever ratio, either forwards or reverse, is selected in the gearing. A gear 6 is fast on the driving shaft 2 and meshes the larger step of the stepped gear 5, the smaller step of which meshes a gear 8 rotatable on the driving shaft 2 and a gear 7 rotatable on but clutchable to the driven shaft 4. The gear 7 can be clutched to its shaft by an axially slidable sleeve 10, externally toothed and meshing a gear clutchable to the intermediate shaft 3 by an axially slidable sleeve 9. The sleeve 9 is also externally toothed, and meshes a gear 17 clutchable to the driven shaft 4 by the sleeve 10. A gear 11 can be clutched to the intermediate shaft 3 by the sleeve 9, and meshes a gear 12 fast on the driven shaft 4. The gear 8, rotatable on the driving shaft 2, is integral with a hollow tube 13 and a gear 14, which latter can be meshed by an axially slidable reversing idler 15 to connect it to the gear 11.
