Abstract
Dextran xanthate is produced by forming a slurry of dextran in water at 60 DEG C., adding caustic soda solution and heating at 60 DEG C., cooling to 25 DEG C. and adding carbon disulphide dropwise, followed by agitation and precipitating the xanthate by pouring the reaction liquid into methanol, the precipitate being filtered and vacuum dried at 60 DEG C., to give a light brown powder in the case of using "dextran B-523" soluble in aqueous caustic soda.ALSO:Dextran xanthate is used, e.g. in the form of a solution or dispersion, as an adhesive binder for bonding together discontinuous fibres.
