Abstract
A process of making tetraalkyl dithiopyrophosphates comprises heating an o,o-dialkyl chlorothiophosphate with an alkali metal carbonate as acid binding agent with the addition of water in the presence of pyridine as a catalyst. The use of elevated tempera-, tures is preferred. In examples, tetramethyl, tetraethyl- and tetrapropyl dithiopyrophosphates are prepared by heating o,o-dimethyl-o,o-diethyl- and o,o-dibutyl chlorothiophosphates respectively with water and potassium carbonate in the presence of pyridine.
