Abstract

Alkali metal alkanesulphinates are obtained from mono- and bis-(alkyl-sulphonyl) hydrazines by the action of alkali with or without heating. The starting material may be in the form of the reaction mixture of hydrazine and an alkyl sulphochloride in the presence of aqueous alkali. Examples describe the preparation of sodium methane-, ethane-, n-butane- and n-decyl-sulphinates and the conversion of these into the corresponding 1,2-bis (alkylsulphonyl) ethanes by reaction with 1,2-dibromoethane.
