Abstract

The invention comprises chromium complexes of dyestuffs free of sulphonic acid groups of formula <FORM:0784635/IV (b)/1> where A is the residue of a coupling component coupled o to an OH group, R and R1 are H, alkyl or substituted alkyl and R2 is alkyl. The dyestuffs are made by coupling appropriate diazotized 1 - amino - 2 - phenol - sulphonamides with coupling components and chroming the product. Specified coupling components are 1-phenyl and (31- and 41-nitro-, 21-chloro- and 21,51 - dichlorophenyl) - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolones, 2-naphthol, 6-bromo-2-naphthol, 1-acetylamino - 7 - naphthol, 3 - hydroxydiphenylene oxide and 2-hydroxycarbazole. 1-Amino-2-phenol - 5 - sulphomethylaminoethane sulphonamide and sulphomethylamide are specified diazo components. Examples are provided illustrating the preparation of the dyestuffs and their use in dyeing wool in black, orange and blue shades, additional components used to certain of those specified above being 1-amino-2-phenol - 5 - sulphomethylaminoethane sulphodimethyl-, ethyl-, diethyl-, b - hydroxyethyl-, di - b - hydroxyethyl-, methylethyl- and methyl- and ethyl - b - hydroxyethyl-amides.
