Abstract

Coatings of thermohardening or self-hardening synthetic resins are applied at least to the "sliding surfaces" of a container or conveyance which comprises surfaces over which solid particulate material is required to slide under gravity when the material is charged into or discharged from the container for the purpose of reducing adhesion of the solid particulate material, e.g. when moist, and of facilitating sliding of the material over the surface. The containers and conveyances, which may be of metal or concrete, may be tipping wagons, coal and cement shoots and bunkers, outlets of bunkers, coal distribution boxes, and bucket cars for conveying coal sludge and slack. The coating, which may be applied in several layers, may comprise a self-hardening synthetic resin made from a number of components mixed immediately before use and hardening after application as a result of interaction of the mixed components, or a thermosetting resin or a mixture of such resins. A specified composition comprises a phthalate-plasticized phenolic resin, a polyvinyl resin, e.g. the chloride, ether, acetate, alcohol, or acetal, a silicone resin, chrome colours, and silicon carbide as a fine powder. The surfaces to be coated may be preliminarily sandblasted and, if of metal, may be pre-coated with one or more identical or different layers of nonferrous metal such as zinc, lead, or aluminium which may be applied by spraying. The coating of thermosetting resin is hardened by heating.ALSO:A coating composition comprises a phthalateplasticized phenolic resin, polyvinyl chloride, ether, acetate, alcohol or acetal, a silicone resin, chrome colours, and finely powdered silicon carbide.
