Abstract

784,000. Sheet-delivery apparatus. EDWARDS, A., PECK, H., and LINOTYPE & MACHINERY, Ltd. May 14, 1956 [May 20, 1955], No. 14619/55. Class 100(1) Sheet delivery apparatus of the type in which sheets 10 are deposited on a pile which is supported by a pile-board 11 arranged to be lowered as the pile increases is characterized by the provision of an auxiliary pile-board 16 adapted detachably to be fitted over the top of the pile in the interval between the delivery of two consecutive sheets so as to receive and support sheets during continued delivery, releasable supports for holding up the auxiliary pileboard comprising a pair of spaced horizontal guides 17 mounted for spreading movement, and automatically actuated operating means for spreading the supports so as to release the auxiliary pileboard and allow it to fall on the main pile-board. The guides 17 are carried by levers 18, 19 biased by springs 21 into pile-board receiving position, movement being limited 'by adjustable stop devices 29. The levers 18, 19 are mounted for swinging movement on rods 20 and the levers 18 include clearance holes 23 through which pass rods 24 mounted for vertical movement in fixed guides 25, 26. The rods are surrounded by springs 27 which bear against the levers 18 and collars 28 mounted on the rods 24. Latches 31, pivoted at 32 have notches 33 which engage lugs 34 on the levers 18. When the main pile is full the auxiliary board 16, which is normally suspended in an inoperative position at the back of the apparatus by means of a rod 38, is pushed along channel-guides 40 and then transferred to the guide 17. After removal of the complete pile from the board 11 the latter is raised by means of chains 14 attached to brackets 15 on cross-members 13 which support the board 11. The members 13 carry blocks 37 adapted to engage screws 36 on the ends of the rods 24 as the main-board 11 is raised, thus compressing the springs 27. The collars 28 then engage the latches 31 so that the levers 18 are released and swing outwardly under the action of the springs 27 to release the board 16 and the sheets thereon on to the main board 11. As the main pile board 11 is lowered again the levers 18 are automatically returned to their normal positions by the springs 21.
