Abstract

783,902. Crucible furnaces. EASTERN GAS BOARD, and FINEDON, J. W. March 1, 1956 [March 1, 1955], No. 6051/55. Class 51 (2). A small crucible furnace suitable for small scale demonstration of metal casting in aluminium &c. comprises a steel shell 1 supported by a skirt 6 and enclosing curved refractory bricks 2 resting on a plate 3, a crucible support 14 seated on segmental ledges 13 integral with the lining 2, and a gas burner 11 disposed below a slot 10 in the lining 2 and the plate 3. The lining 2 is formed with radially disposed projecting lugs 15 to locate the crucible. A refractory cement lid 18 enclosed by a steel ring 19 with bars 20 embedded in the cement, is rotatably slidable over the top of a furnace about a pintle engaging a socket welded to the shell 1. The lid is formed with a flue aperture 22.
