Abstract

783,656. Fire-extinguishing compositions. NU-SWIFT, Ltd. Sept. 7, 1955 [Oct. 21, 1954], No. 25630/55. Class 47 A dry fire-extinguishing composition suitable for all classes of fires consists of a mixture by weight of 35-55 parts of ammonium sulphate, 50-30 parts of sodium bicarbonate, and 7-13 parts of di-ammonium phosphate together with smaller amounts of stearic acid or a finely divided insoluble metal stearate and a finely divided insoluble mineral parting agent such as talc, soapstone or diatomaceous earth. In a method of preparing the composition the ammonium sulphate and di-ammonium phosphate are finely ground and dried before mixing with part of the sodium bicarbonate and stearic acid or insoluble metal stearate, this first mixture being then dried again before being finally admixed with a lesser or equal amount of a second mixture consisting of sodium bicarbonate pre-mixed with stearic acid or insoluble metal stearate and finely divided insoluble mineral parting agent.
