Abstract
A dry fire-extinguishing powder consists predominantly of sodium bicarbonate capable of passing 200 mesh and up to 10% by weight thereof of an organic wax which is a synthetic condensation product having a molecular weight of about 650 and which is capable of passing 400 mesh. The organic wax preferably has the composition 78.75% carbon; 11.78% hydrogen; 5.0% oxygen and 4.47% nitrogen. The powder may also include 0.5-4.5% by weight of the bicarbonate of silica aerogel or calcium phosphate capable of passing 200 mesh, in which event adhesion of the wax to the bicarbonate is enhanced by milling these substances together before addition of the silica or calcium phosphate to the mixture.
