Abstract

783,210. Making commutators. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES), Ltd., J. May 3, 1956 [May 16, 1955], No. 14029/55. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXXV] A moulded commutator is made from a strip having thin marginal parts c, d, by rolling or pressing deep grooves e on the underside producing raised bridges h between the segments f and between the riser parts g, piercing slots j leaving links i between the segments and risers, notching the part d to leave a tongue k opposite each segment, and bending the parts i and k to form keying loops m, n, as shown in Fig. 10, and finally moulding and turning off the bridges h. The risers may be oblique as shown, or they may be in line with the segments or bent out at right angles. If desired, only the segment parts may be made from thick metal, the risers being formed as eyes bent out of the thin marginal part c.
