Abstract

763,404. Commutators for dynamo-electric machines. WATLIFF CO., Ltd. Oct. 25, 1955 [Sept. 24, 1954], No. 27701/54. Class 35. A moulded commutator is made from a strip of metal having a thicker middle part 11 and thinner side flanges which are cut to leave lugs 14, by bending the strip into a ring and then bending the lugs inside the ring, and finally moulding and separating the segments by sawcuts. The strip is preferably differentially work-hardened so that the centre part is harder than the lugs. If desired, the strip can be bent the other way out.
