Class 126 A fire grate comprises a frame 10 with two firebar units spanning its open centre, the interconnected bars of one unit alternating with those of the other unit, and the units being supported by the frame so that one unit can be rocked about one edge without moving the other unit. Bars 27 connected at the front and rear by rectangular section bars 28, 29 form a firebar unit supported on recessed central parts of flanges 17, 15, Fig. 5, formed at the front and back of the frame. A wider second unit comprises bars 33 connected at the back and front by a round bar 34 and a rectangular section bar 35 resting on the bars 29, 28 of the first unit and on the raised outer parts of the flanges 15, 17. Lugs 31 on the bars 27 of the first unit and an upper rear flange 14 on the frame hold the round bar 34 in place so that the second unit may be rocked about it by tool inserted through an integral lug 36. The bars 27 of the first unit are bent downwardly at the front and the bars 33 of the second unit are bent upwards at the back so that they lie in the same plane. In a sunk fire grate, the frame 10 has a forwardly projecting plate 21 with a damper-controlled slot 23 for admitting air to the ashpit and a breast plate 25 located by lugs 26 prevents the fire falling forwardly. A gas burner 38 may be provided, a lug 39 formed on the frame 10 having tapped passages to connect the burner to the gas supply.
