[Also in Group XXXVIII] A magnetic tape recording reproducing head comprising a ferromagnetic, e.g. ferrite, core 1, 2, having a gap 3 along which a recorded tape 4 is passed includes at least one Hall-plate 5 so disposed that a magnetic field set up by the tape in the core extends transversely to the main faces of the plate whereby upon an electric excitation current being passed through the plate transversely to the direction of the magnetic field an electric field of strength determined by those of the excitation current and of the magnetic field is set up within the plate transversely to the plane through the respective directions of the excitation current and mag. netic field. A formula is given in the Specification by which a Hall-plate which is suitable for a reproducing head is selected. Ribs 6 may be provided for cooling the Hall-plate and core. The Hall-plate may be ground and of germanium, silicon or indium-antimonide, or alternatively applied by vacuum evaporation to one or both core parts 1, 2.
