Abstract
707,699. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 7, 1952 [May 10, 1951], No. 11531/52. Class 40 (2). In a magnetic recording/reproducing head having at least one magnetic circuit incorporating two rigid core elements pressed together and forming two parallel magnetic gaps. The planes of said core elements defining the main direction of the flux are at an angle to each other deviating from 180 degrees. In the embodiment' described with reference to Figs. 1 and 2, the core elements 2, 3 are gripped in non-magnetic holders 20, 21, respectively, and pressed together against spacing plates 7, 8 by a U-shaped spring 16 in conjunction with a resilient clamping piece 17, and held against 'supporting surfaces on a supporting body 24 to which the spring 16 is secured by screws 25, 26. The remaining Figures illustrate embodiments employing two magnetic circuits, such. as for stereophonic recording and reproduction. In one embodiment, Fig. 5, diametrically opposite core elements 35, 38, and coils 57, 58 thereon, respectively, are offset from the direction of travel of the recording medium. Other arrangements of the core elements may be as shown in Fig. 6a, b, c and d. In yet another embodiment, Figs. 7 and 10, the core member's are offset both from the direction of travel of the recording medium and from the perpendicular of the plane of the medium, the coils 57, 58 surrounding the parts of the core elements opposite to the recording gaps.
