Abstract

782,173. Colour photography. AGFA AKT.-GES. FUR PHOTOFABRIKATION. July 23. 1954 [July 29, 1953], No. 21607/54. Class 98(2) A light-sensitive material comprises (a) at least one emulsion layer the silver halide of which is mainly silver bromide and which contains a colour coupler, and (b) a masking layer in contact therewith containing a spontaneously developable silver salt such as the chloride or ferrocyanide, a colour coupler and development nuclei; and this may be exposed to an object and colour developed in presence of little or no bromide in the solution to produce a coloured image in layer (a) and a flat masking image in layer (b), in which layer development does not occur at places where bromide has been set free by development of the adjacent image layer. A yellow or purple mask can thus be made between the middle and bottom layers of a normal film, using if desired a blocking layer to produce the mask from one only of these layers, or a grey mask may be made by mixed couplers, or with colloidal silver as the nuclei the masking layer may constitute the normal yellow filter layer. Two examples are directed to negative films for yellow and grey mask production respectively between the red and green sensitized layers.
