Abstract

1,089,991. A colour reversal process. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Nov. 16, 1964 [Nov. 14, 1963], No.46674/64. Heading G2C. A colour reversal process comprises (i) exposing a photographic silver halide material comprising at least two emulsion layers the outermost emulsion layer being sensitive to a part of the region of the spectrum to which the next inner emulsion layer is sensitive (ii) black and white developing the emulsion layers (iii) reversal re-exposing the outermost layer only and colour developing said layer in the presence of a colour coupler and (iv) treating the material with an aqueous solution containing a silver halide nucleating boron compound and at the same time or thereafter with an aqueous alkaline solution containing a silver halide developing agent which is a 1, 4-dihydroxy benzene soluble in the said solution and having a side chain containing at least 4 C atoms substituted in the nucleus so as to reduce to silver only the nucleated silver halide in the outer emulsion layer. The inner emulsion layer may be subsequently colour developed. The process is applicable to red, green and bluesensitive colour materials in which the red and blue sensitive emulsions are reversal re-exposed and colour developed before treatment of the material with the nucleating agent. Either the red-sensitive or the blue-sensitive layer may be outermost. The boron nucleating agents and 1,4-dihydroxy benzene-developers are as described in Specification 1, 089, 992.
