Abstract

781,729. Drying apparatus. COOCH & SONS, Ltd. Jan. 18, 1956 [Jan. 18, 1955], No. 1554/55. Class 34(2) A machine for drying potatoes &c. comprises a series of rotary rollers 1, Figs. 1, 2, mounted on shafts 2 and having a covering 3 of absorbent material, e.g. sponge rubber, the rollers being driven from an electric motor M by endless-chains 8 and sprockets 9. Potatoes are fed into the machine by an inclined shoot 11 and pass over the rollers to the discharge shoot 12, the distance between the rollers being such that the potatoes are held in the nip to absorb the moisture. Steel rollers 15 carried by shafts 16 revolve in frictional contact with the drying rollers so exerting a squeezing action on the sponge rubber and removing the absorbed moisture. The rollers 15 are pressed against the rollers 1 by springs 19 supported by channels 20 adjustable by cams 21 mounted on shafts 22 rotatable by a handle 24.
