Abstract

1366434 Grinding ETAB AC SCHOLAERT SA 4 Oct 1972 [5 Oct 1971] 45798/72 Heading B3D [Also in Division D1] A machine for abrading flexible strips, e.g. fabrics, comprises a cylindrical array of rotatable abrading cylinders 2, the abrading surfaces of which define a circular path over which the fabric 10 is constrained to pass in contact with these surfaces directly from one cylinder 2 to the next by guide rollers 7, 8. The cylinders 2 are emery-covered and are distributed about a cylindrical frame 1 pivotable about a shaft 4 which, in operation, is fixed in any angular position. In use, the cylinders 2 are driven so that adjacent cylinders rotate in opposite directions. A container 9 for receiving dust is located between the rollers 7, 8 which are connected by a speed varying device (not shown) to permit adjustment of the fabric tension. The fabric 10 passes over a roller 20, through a tensioning device 17, over rollers 21, 8, over the cylinders 2, over rollers 7, 22, 23, 24, through a shearing or cropping machine 27, over rollers 25, 26 and is received by a laying device 15 or a winding device.
