Abstract

781,419. Aerials; radio direction-finding. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 25,1956 [May 26, 1955], No. 16252/56. Addition to 772,120. Class 40 (7). The aerial arrangement of the parent Specification is modified to reduce the errors arising due to the proximity of the lower half of the dipole and the lower parts of the conductive strips to the considerable metallic mass of the drive means for the cylinder supporting the parasitic elements. In accordance with the present invention the reflector strips 2 are of helical form and tuned to resonance and thus do not closely approach the drive mechanism. In addition the lower part of the flat wide-band dipole may consist of a plurality of helices 7 arranged round the coaxial feeder and support 6. The use of helical members increases the spacing between the bottom of the dipole and the drive mechanism. The rest of the system may be constructed as described in the parent Specification and may include director elements 3 supported by the rotatable insulating cylinder carrying the reflector helices 2.
