Abstract
781,032. Glass-heating lehrs. BRITISH HARTFORD-FAIRMONT, Ltd., and LAWSON, A. July 28, 1955, No. 21883/55. Class 51 (2). A glass-heating lehr 1, through which glassware coated with ceramic decorative matter in a vaporizable vehicle, e.g. wax, is traversed on an openwork conveyer 3, is heated by upper and lower electric elements 13, and has a preheating zone in which heated air, driven through cooling tubes 22 by a fan, is supplied upwardly into the lehr through two series of slots 25 and 26, being exhausted through valve-controlled chimneys 27 and 29 respectively. The air from the slots 26 carries off vapours driven from the decorative matter initially, any residual carbon being burnt off by the air from the slots 25. The heating elements may be selectively and thermostatically controlled, or the lehr may be oil-fired or heated by gas-fired radiant tubes. In the firing zone, the lehr atmosphere is continuously circulated by fans 14 through ducts 15, down side ducts 16, and upwardly through the ware back to the fan inlets. Final cooling of the ware is by counter-current air supplied by a fan disposed near the outlet end of the lehr, Fig. 1 (not shown), this air being exhausted through a roof vent.
