Abstract

780,750. Smallware looms; automatic shuttle changing, CHOUPIN G.M. V. J. Oct. 12, 1954 [Oct: 22, 1953], No. 29377/54. Class 142(2) Each section of a ribbon-making loom has a plurality of shuttle fronts, stored in a magazine and ejected one by one, as required by the machine, by means including a system of levers arranged in the general plane of the slay and controlled by a reciprocating rod, the shuttle fronts being secured, in turn, to a common shuttle base which runs permanently in the shuttle race. When the weft breaks or becomes exhausted, an electro-magnet 44 carried on an arm 42a of a bellcrank lever is energized by the action of one or other of switches 92, 93, 94 and its core 53 is projected to trap a lever 41, constantly oscillated by a reciprocating rod 3 (Fig. 7, not shown) between itself and a finger 45 on the arm; and a spring-urged lever 47 snaps into a circumferential groove on the core to lock it in position. The other arm 42b of the bellcrank bears a finger 54 engaging in a slot in a lever 43, in turn coupled at its outer end, by a pin 56, to a slide 35 carrying shuttle fronts. The next appropriate stroke of lever 41 will then depress the slide 35 until a screw 48 on the locking lever. 47 abuts against a member 64 (Fig. 7, not, shown), and is caused to release the core 53. If, due to faulty operation of the mechanism, the first spare shuttle front fails to press on the end 86a of a lever 86, a machine stopping switch 89 will not be opened and the machine will stop. In the modification of Figs. 8 and 10, a lever 68, linked to the shuttle front-carrying slide 35a, carries an electromagnet 69, the core of which may be projected to lie under one arm 77b of a bell crank lever constantly oscillated by a reciprocating rod 37a. A core-locking lever 73 is pivoted at 72a on the lever 68 and its free end is connected with the slide 35a by a cable 74 passing over the top of a stationary member 33a so that, as the lever 68 is rocked counter-clockwise and the slide 35a descends, the lever 73 is withdrawn from the locking position. As the bellcrank lever rocks clockwise, its arm 77b engages under a flange on the lever 68, to return the slide 35a to its upper position.
