Abstract

780,726. Refrigerating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DOUGLAS, R. W. Aug. 5, 1955 [May 14, 1954], No. 14218/54. Class 29 [Also in Group XXXVI] A thermoelectric refrigerator is provided with a thermoelectric generator to energize the refrigerator. P- and N-type semi-conductors 3 and 4 respectively are separated by an electrically insulating material 5 and electrically connected by a copper plate 6 of negligible resistance which forms the cold plate of the refrigerator, and is in effect the cold junction of the thermocouple. The generator comprises P- and N-type semi-conductors 8 and 7 connected in similar fashion by a copper block 11 and separated by insulating material. Elements 3 and 7 are connected by a copper block 9, and elements 4 and 8 by a copper block 10. An electric heater 12 or any other source of heat, is embedded in the block 11, while a pipe 14 for cooling water passes through blocks 8 and 9. The whole is surrounded by insulating material 13.
