780,505. Butter. V.S.C.H.P. VYZKUMNY USTAV STROJU CHLADICICH A. POTRAVINARSKYCH. Dec. 13, 1954 [Dec. 14, 1953 ; Nov. 3, 1954], No. 35985 /54. Class 84. Apparatus for the production of butter from cream incorporates within an enclosed casing 3 down which the cream flows, transverse walls 7 which are spaced apart in a vertical direction and extend from the lateral internal wall of the casing at a small angle downwards and towards the centre where each wall is provided with a hole, and a rotary spindle 9 extending through the holes and carrying discs 11 extending into the spaces between the transverse walls. The transverse walls and discs respectively may be connected to the internal face of the casing and the outer face of the spindle, or a sleeve 10 mounted thereon, in an exchangeable and adjustable manner, preferably by means of distance rings 8, 12. Vanes 15, 16, Fig. 2, respectively, may be provided at the lower side of each wall and upper side of each disc. Churning with the apparatus is in two phases : firstly where the cream flows over the smooth upper surface of a stationary transverse wall, and then where it flows under agitation through the gaps between the walls and discs ; this arrangement is stated to give improved separation of non-fat components from the butter fat.
