Abstract
779,501. Endless belt conveyers; rope railways. GREBE, K. Dec. 21, 1954 [Dec. 21, 1953], No. 36974/54. Classes 78 (1) and 104 (2). An endless belt or belt section of the kind formed of a series of articulated plates is guided in upper and lower runs in a support structure and is driven by driving pins mounted on a driving member also guided in the support structure and moved by a driving cable, the driving member being guided in separate tracks between the upper and lower runs when an endless belt is used and when a belt section is used in the run not occupied by the belt section. In Fig. 2, driving pins 13, 13<SP>1</SP> fixed to carriage 12 engage surfaces 14<SP>1</SP> on the underside of a belt section 14. The carriage is reciprocated by a cable 11 along tracks 16, 20 and 16<SP>1</SP>, 20 for engaging a belt section in upper and lower runs, respectively, being switched from one track to the other at the end of its movement by a switch 17<SP>1</SP> and a common track extension 17, the belt section guide 16 being arranged to bring the pins out of engagement at these points. The belt section or an endless belt 34, Fig. 4, may be supported by carriages 341 with which the driving pins 33 on the driver carriage 32 engage, rollers 35 on carriage 32 engaging between the guides 36, 361 for the rollers 34<SP>11</SP> of the carriages 341. Guides 36, 361 are in sections, adjacent ends of which are connected through brackets 37, 37<SP>1</SP> to frames 40. Alternatively, when a belt section is used, the driver carriages 22, Fig. 3, hauled by a winch 21, may run in the guides 26, 26<SP>1</SP>, the arrangement being such that the belt section 24 is moved up to a reversing drum 29 on one run with the carriage moving in the other run, and movement continued until half the belt section has returned along the other run towards the carriage, whereupon the carriage is switched into the other run by switches 27<SP>1</SP>, 28 and the winch reversed under the control of contacts operated by the carriage. The pin 23 is vertically slidable from its position engaging the half of the belt section still in, e.g., the lower run into position to engage the half returning along the upper run by engagement with cams 30 which can be adjusted for conveyance in either sense. Instead of a sliding pin, pivoted driving-pins, Fig. 1 (not shown), may be used. For use at a mine face sloping downwardly from a mineway a driver carriage 52, Fig. 6, is controlled by a winch 51 such that a belt section 54 passing from an intermediate drive 59 in the mineway is engaged centrally by pin 53 on the carriage to control its movement down the sloping face, and to return it to the intermediate drive after being loaded or unloaded, the face conveyer framework being of dismantleable sections. If the face is leve a double drum winch is used. A number of driver carriages, 72, 721, 73, 731, Fig. 8, may be attached to the two runs 71, 71<SP>1</SP> of an endless hauling cable such that each carriage may be reciprocated over a certain section to transfer a belt section from the pins on one carriage to those on another on an adjacent section when the movement is reversed, cams engaged by the carriages causing the pins to be projected or retracted in the desired manner, whilst reversal of the winches driving the cable being under control of electric contacts operated by the carriages.
