974,946. Endless conveyers. U.D. ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Feb. 18, 1963 [Jan. 24, 1962], No. 2746/62. Heading B8A. An apparatus for transferring crates from a travelling conveyer having two laterally spaced endless chains 8, on to a receiving platform 18 comprises an elevating platform disposed below the upper run of the chains adjacent one end of the conveyer and which under pneumatic operation projects above the chains 8 to elevate the crates, a support structure 17 to one side of the conveyer adjacent the elevating means and adapted to locate the receiving platform 18 substantially level with the top of the elevating platform in its elevated position, and a pusher 20, 21 arranged adjacent the elevating means on the opposite side of the conveyer to the platform 18 and adapted to push the conveyed crates on to the platform 18. The elevating platform is pivotally mounted on parallel links which are actuated through a toggle linkage by means of a pneumatic ram 30 Fig. 3 (not shown). The pusher 20, 21 is formed by the superstructure of a carriage 19 which is provided with rollers 38 and 39 to travel along horizontally and vertically disposed guide tracks. The motion of the carriage 19 is controlled by another pneumatic ram 23. The conveyer which is driven from a motor through a reduction gear and chain and sprocket transmission, is provided with a fixed stop at its downstream end adjacent the elevating means and with a swinging stop just upstream of the elevating means. The swinging stop is operated by means of a third pneumatic ram 37, Fig. 2 (not shown). In operation crates being conveyed towards the fixed stop firstly operate a valve which actuates the stop ram 37 to swing its stop across the conveyer, and then operates a valve which actuates the elevating ram 30. Upon elevation, the elevating platform operates a valve which actuates the carriage ram 32 which causes the crates to be pushed on to the receiving platform 18 and a valve to be operated which reverses the direction of actuation of both the elevating ram and the carriage ram. The stop ram 37 is reversed by means of a hand control or the swinging stop may be mechanically withdrawn by the return motion of ram 23. A re-setting valve is provided in case of obstruction of the pusher mechanism.
