Abstract

A refractory body consists of, in per cent, alumina 80-90; iron oxide 2-8; titania 2-8; and silica 1-8, the average particle size of the raw mix from which the body is made being less than 10 microns. When bentonite is the source of silica it also serves as a plasticizer and a green binder. Compositions outside the invention are described for comparison, e.g. alumina and bentonite alone or with one of only the following Beo, Zno, MoO3, BaO, MgO, T:O2, Fe2O3:
