[Also in Group XXVIII] In a tube bend, rings or bands are assembled on a tube 3 and in spaced apart relationship, and the tube is then bent so that on the inside of the bend the rings are spaced apart or only just contact one another. In modifications, (a) overlapping rings 4, Fig. 3, are shrunk on to the core tube 3, or the tube is expanded to obtain a bond between the tube and the rings, and (b) bands 5, Fig. 5, are wound helically in overlapping relationship on to a core tube 6, successive layers of the bands being wound in opposite directions; the gaps 7 between adjacent turns of the bands may receive, during the winding thereof, a spacer band 8 having a resistance to deformation which is less than that of the bands 5.
