Abstract
778,799. Making sliding clasp fasteners. WALDES KOH-I-NOOR, Inc. March 14, 1956 [April 21, 1955], No. 7937/56. Addition to 775,407. Class 83 (2). In an improvement in the apparatus claimed in the parent Specification for producing a succession of measured lengths of slide fastener chain 10 cut-off from a continuous chain, and having element-free gaps at one end and adjacent the other end of each measured length produced by removing the fastener elements from the chain at predetermined positions by means of punches 15a, 15b two locating pins 19, 20 are provided rearwardly of the punch set 15 which pins are permitted to move relatively to one another in their movements towards the chain. Both locating pins are biased downwardly by springs 24, 25 and are raised from the chain by a rotating cam 29 and lift rod 27. The pin 19 has a locating edge 19a for engaging the elements of one stringer and a second locating edge 19b for engaging the elements of the other stringer, said edges 19a, 19b being spaced apart a distance approximately half the pitch of the fastener elements. The punch 20 has a locating face 20a for one stringer and a second locating face 20b for the other stringer, said edges being also spaced from each other at half the pitch of the elements. The edges 19a, 20a and also the edges 19b, 20b are spaced from each other a distance approximately equal to the distance between adjacent elements on the same stringer whereby upon descent of the locating pins, one or other of the edges 19a, 20a will engage in the gap between adjacent stringers and thus ensure more accurate measured lengths of chain being produced. The stretching pin 16 is biased downwardly by a spring 35 and moved upwardly by a cam 39. Alternatively the two locating pins may each have one locating edge 19a, 20a only for operating of the same stringer or these pins may have each one locating edge 19a, 20b or 19b, 20a for operating on opposite stringers.
