Abstract
740,226. Sliding-clasp fasteners. TALON, Inc. April 1, 1954 [April 20, 1953], No. 9568/54. Class 44. A slide fastener slider comprises overlying spaced wings 2 and 3, means detachably connecting the wings together at one end thereof including an inwardly extending portion 6 carried by one of the wings which cooperates with and engages a corresponding inwardly extending portion 7 carried by the other wing, a movable latch member 10 pivotally attached to one of the wings adjacent the inter-engaging portions, the latch member being arranged in a recess 9 in the first wing and extending up through a recess in the other wing to a point above the surface of this wing and an enlarged portion arranged on the outer free end of the latch member above the surface referred to, the enlarged portion 14 having means co-operating with that surface for maintaining the wings in their proper spaced operating relation and for permitting the wings to be moved apart to another predetermined spaced position. As shown, the inter-engaging portions 6 and 7 are formed with polygonalshaped inter-engaging surfaces to prevent relative rotation of the wings 2 and 3. The latch member 10 pivoted to the wing 3 and extending through an aperture 13 in the wing 2 is provided with a head portion 14, projecting beyond the wing 2, having on each side thereof a cam portion 15 which co-operates with a pair of side-by-side recesses 16 and 17, on the outer surface of the wing 2, the recess 16 being shallower than the recess 17. A pull member 20 is pivoted at 19 to the wing 2 and is provided with a recess 21. A spring 24 biases the latch member 10 into engagement with the recesses 16 corresponding to the normal spacing of the wing members 2 and 3. If, however, material or foreign matter are caught between the wings and the fastener elements, the wings are moved apart to free the slider by operation of the pull member 20 to its uppermost position so that a wall 22 of the recess 21 bears against a face 18 of the latch member 10 and moves the latter into engagement with the recesses 17 against the spring 24. Upon release of the pull member, the wings 2 and 3 are automatically returned to the position shown.
