778,594. Sliding clasp fasteners. FREY, GES. FURINDUSTRIELLE FORSCHUNGEN, Dr. ING. S. Feb. 3, 1956 [Feb. 3, 1955], No. 3538/56. Class 44. A sliding clasp fastener comprises a pair of continuous strips of flexible material 1 and 2, one strip being provided with a longitudinal dovetail-profiled groove 7 and the other strip being provided with a longitudinal dovetail-profiled rib 6 adapted to be nested in the groove, and a slider 3 comprising a pair of channel members 11 and 14 spaced by a member 17 rigidly connected thereto, the channel members and the spacing member forming a Y-shaped guiding channel for the strips and the spacing member being provided on one side with a wedge-shaped portion 18 adapted to enter the groove to spread the walls 33 and 34 thereof a distance corresponding substantially to the thickness of the rib 6, the channel members being provided with interior ribs 19 and 20 arranged in spaced registering relationship and extending from the spacing member 17 substantially parallel with one pair of flanges of one of the channel members, the ribs being provided with flanges 21 and 22 forming ledges constituting continuations of the sides of the wedge-shaped portion and adapted to guide the spread-apart walls, the interior rib flanges converging at their ends remote from the spacing member thereby to guide the walls 33 and 34 into and out of interlocking relationship with respect to and across the dovetail-profiled rib 6. As shown, the strips I and 2 which may be of synthetic plastic material, are formed with cavities 8 and 9 respectively by which the strips are secured to ribbons 4 and 5 of textile material which are attached for example by sewing to the edges of the materials to be joined together by the fastener. The ribs 19 and 20 of the slider are integral with ribs 23 and 24 respectively of the associated channel members 11 and 14 to form V-shaped ribs the arms of which engage and guide the inner sides of the strip 1. The slider is provided with a bail 27 for a pull tab (not shown).
