Abstract

778,146. Air cleaners. GENERAL MOTORS, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1955 [Jan. 5, 1955], No. 290/55. Class 8(2) In a liquid bath air filter suitable for use with an I.C. engine and comprising an annular oil bath 1 located below an annular container 5 for filter medium 8 and coaxial with a conduit 4 adapted for connection to the engine, the container 5 is detachably secured to the oil bath 1 by a screw thread 10 engaging a thread 3 on the conduit 4 or by a bayonet joint. Dust laden air entering an annular inlet 13 ascends a bed of woven wire 8 and is deflected by a cover 19 down the central duct 4. In a modification the lower end of the duct 4 is blanked off and clean air ascends through a silencing chamber 23, Fig. 3 (not shown), having a side outlet.
