Abstract

778,080. Two-part couplings. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 13, 1955 [July 14, 1954], No. 20527/54. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XL (c)] In electronic equipment mounted on a frame 10, 11 slidable in channel members 21, 22 so as to be withdrawable from an operative position to an inspection position, the inner end of the frame terminates in a plug member comprising an insulating sheet 30 on each side of which contact strips 24 are held by a designation plate 17 and a strip 33 having lateral lugs 34, 34<SP>1</SP>. The plug co-operates with a socket mounted on a panel 32 carrying the members 21, 22, the socket consisting of a pair of gate members pivoted in a frame 36, 37, 38 and each comprising an insulating block 40 carrying strip contacts 41. In their inoperative positions the gates are swung outwardly against stops 48 by springs 43, 43<SP>1</SP> but on insertion of the plug, lugs 34, 341 engage abutments 44 on the gates and swing them inwardly so that the contacts 41 engage plug contacts 24. A catch 34 in the channel member 22 retains the frame in its operative position. Fig. 3 shows a modification wherein the gates are not actuated by the plug. In this case one of the gates carries a cam 67 integral with a lever 65 and co-operating with a cam block 68 on the other gate. Thus after insertion of the plug actuation of lever 65 closes the gates on to the plug contacts against springs 72, 72<SP>1</SP>. A peg 62 carried by the plug enters holes in the gates so that removal of the plug is prevented until both the gates are opened and the catch 31 is released.
