Abstract
778,023. Coke oven doors. FORSANS, P. E. H. Sept. 5, 1955 [Feb. 9, 1955], No. 25434/55. Class 55 (1). A coke oven or like door 6 carries around its periphery a channel member 13, Fig. 3, which is urged when the door is closed by a resilient tube 19 filled with liquid under pressure into contact with a frame 3 surrounding the door opening, the sealing being completed by filling the channel member with liquid, e.g. water or oil, supplied by a pipe 16. As shown, the sealing liquid passes through slots 15 into the member 13, but liquid may also be supplied by light-tight connections. The liquid may be circulated through the member 13 or slots may be formed so that liquid trickles down the inside face of the door. In modifications, the channel member 13 may be mounted within a larger channel member welded to the door and the means for urging the channel member 13 against the frame 3 may comprise a resilient tube which may be acted upon by screws or springs. In the modification shown in Fig. 12, the channel member 13 is secured to the frame 3 by bolts 43 and seals against a plate 46 carried by a resilient strip 35 mounted on the door 6 and acted upon by corrugated springs 47.
