Classes 100(2) and 100(4) Portable type-wheel machines; inking apparatus. A pocket-size cheque-printing device comprises a hand-set type-wheel 2 mounted on an arm B, pivotally mounted at 1 so that an inking roller 15 is swung clear of the wheel 2 during impression and during an upward movement of the arm B a letter-spacing advance is given to the cheque. Letter-spacing. The upward movement of the arm B pivots an integral arm 27 against a plate 31 connected by a rod 30 to a slider 33 carrying a pawl 37. Pawl 37 engages a pinion 40 to rotate it one step so that a rack 47 is moved transversely to the type-wheel 2. A press-button 52 may prevent letter-spacing when necessary. Paper supports. A spring clip is mounted on the end of the rack 47 to grip the cheque. When not in use, the rack, which may if necessary be telescopic (see Figs. 13-16, not shown), is removed from its transverse position and accommodated in a longitudinal slot 55.
