Abstract

777,486. Soldering. MULLER, J. Oct. 21, 1954 [Nov. 3, 1953], No. 30381/54. Class 83 (4). A portable appliance comprises a waist belt carrying a bottle of compressed fuel gas and a hand held heater or burner connected to the bottle by a short flexible pipe. A gas bottle 3 mounted in a support 2 carried on a waist belt 1 is connected by a flexible pipe 30 to a burner 5 associated with a soldering iron bit 6. The gas supply to the burner is controlled by a valve in the handle 16, Fig. 3, of the burner which valve is opened when a lever 7 on the handle 16 is gripped to the handle and is closed when the lever 7 is released to be spring urged away from the handle. The burner is lighted by a ferro-cerium flint lighter operated by a finger lever 8. When not in use the burner may be hooked into an asbestos cover 4 hooked on the belt, the soldering bit being held by a spring arm in the cover. The gas-control valve may be located close to the bottle and be operated through a flexible control. The use of a burner adapted for disinfestation, descaling water pipes and destroying insect nests is referred to, a rigid pipe being fitted to the end of the flexible pipe. A pilot burner may be used instead of the flint lighter.
