Abstract

777,326. Inductance control systems for consumption apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 19, 1954 [Feb. 27, 1953], No. 5568/53. Class 38 (4). In a current control system comprising saturable reactors LSI-LS6 arranged in seriesconnected pairs in each live lead 1-3 with the D.C. control windings 8 of each pair connected in opposition to each other, each pair of reactors has a third pair of windings 9 connected in closed circuit in opposition through a resistance, such as a pair of reversely connected rectifiers MR1, variable inversely with current flow in the third windings. By this means elimination of even harmonic voltages from the D.C. windings is achieved without causing appreciable reduction in the speed of response of the reactors. To improve the response speed, without the necessity of excessive control power, the usual linear resistor in series with the control windings is replaced by a non-linear resistor, such as a rectifier MR6, the resistance of which rises sharply as the control 'current is reduced. The resistor may be shunted by a capacitor C which neutralizes part of the inductance of the control windings. The system shown, which is for use with an electrostatic precipitator, also includes shunt reactors LP1-LP6.
