Abstract
777,242. Automatic D.C. smoothing control systems. PERKINS, L. Jan. 4, 1954 [Nov. 25, 1952], No. 29798/52. Classes 38 (2) and 38 (4). A load 12, Fig. 6, is supplied in series with an inductance 11 from a rectified A.C. source connected to terminals 10 and ripple voltage across the load is reduced in negative feedback manner by applying it to an amplifier A, the output of which is applied to a valve 13 having load 12 in its cathode circuit. Further reduction of ripple is obtained by applying the ripple voltage across a secondary winding 17 of inductance 11 to the grid circuit of valve 13, the anode circuit or which is also coupled in negative feedback manner through a transformer 18 to load 12. A resistance-capacity network 15, 16 provides the necessary quadrature phase shift for utilization of the ripple voltage across the inductance. Modifications are described involving only one of the ripple reducing circuits of Fig. 6 in which direct coupling may replace transformers 17 and 18. Typical circuits involving a one or two valve amplifier A are shown with component valves.
