777,196. Cutting-off lathes. SOC. CIVILE D'ETUDES ROXOR. Aug. 31, 1955 [Feb. 1, 1955], No. 24952/55. Class 83 (3). A machine for cutting bars &c. into lengths comprises a non-rotating feed-tube 2, a rotary cutter-head 20 journalled on the feed-tube, and driven by a pulley 21, a number of radiallymovable tools 25 on shafts 22 rotatable in the cutter head, a lever 27 secured to each shaft, a cam 30 slidably-mounted on the feed-tube to engage the levers, and an operating-lever 9 pivoted on the machine-frame 1 and coupled to the cam. The lever 9 is pivoted at 10 to a link 11 secured to the frame by another pivot 12, and is connected by pivot 19 to a bar 18 forming an extension to the cam-sleeve 30. A roller on the end of the bar 18 is engaged in a slot 16 of another cam 15, which rotates in a clockwisedirection when the lever is moved to feed the tools, and draws the collet-tube 3 back to grip the bar. On the opposite movement of the lever 9 the tools return by centrifugal-force, the stock is freed, and the lever engages a stop 8 which moves a lever 5 carrying a motordriven roller 7. The latter co-operates with a guide-roller 6 to feed the stock through the spindle up to a stop (not shown).
