Abstract
777,111. Metal wire feeds. JOHN BULL RUBBER CO., Ltd. Dec. 17, 1954 [Dec. 18, 1953], No. 35239/53. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for cutting wire into lengths consists of a device for pulling wire through the shearing machine, a wire tensioning arrangement and a gripper which allows the wire to move freely in the feeding direction but prevents reverse movement of the wire. The gripper consists of a block 12 and a bar 15 connected by parallel links 16 to the block 12. The wire 1 passes through guide and feed pulleys from a bulk supply to a reciprocating gripper 8 and is tensioned by a pulley 5 carrying a weight 10. The end 9 of the wire is fed through the guillotine by one stroke of the gripper 8 which is driven by a pneumatic motor 27, and is then attached to a winding drum. The gripper 8 is retracted and the winding drum pulls the required length of wire through the guillotine, the wire sliding freely through the gripper 8. The wire is cut and the cycle of operations restarted. Cams on the shaft of the winding drum operate the guillotine which actuates a rocker arm controlling by a valve the supply of air to the cylinder of the motor 27.
