Abstract

709,233. Twisting. HUGUENIN, W. Nov. 26, 1951 [Nov. 29, 1950], No. 27699/51. Class 83 (4) In a machine for cold twisting reinforcing wires the wires are twisted in sections and are fed either during or between twisting operations. In an embodiment, Fig. 5, in which the wire is stationary during twisting a torque head 32 is rotated by an electromotor 1 and a clamping head 38 is supported in a bearer 194. Jaws in the heads 32, 38 are actuated by linkage 178, 175 from cams 172. The electromotor 1 through belts 191, 164 rotates two double spiral camshafts 165, 166 which oscillate a frame 167 with catch 168. A feed gripper 34 on a frame 169 can be engaged by the catch 168. When the frame 167 is moved to the left, Fig. 5, by the shafts 165, 166 the catch 168 pulls the feed frame 169 to the left. A fixed stop disengages the catch and a spring 171 pulls the feed frame to the right and the grippers 34 are closed and the wires are fed to the right. The clamps on the heads 32, 38 are closed by the cams 172 and twisting is effected. The frame 167 has meanwhile moved to the right and re-engaged the frame 169. A beam carrying staggered straightening rolls, Fig. 6 (not shown), can be linked to the frame 167 for straightening the wires, or pivoted straightening dies, Fig. 8 (not shown), may be fitted. In a modification, Fig. 2, in which the wire is fed during twisting an electromotor 1 drives lubricating chains a, b helically wound on a drum 5 and tightened by pulleys 18, 19 to rotate and translate the drum through linkage. A collar 22 on an extension of the drum engages a lever 24 actuating a pawl 21. The drum 5 carries a torque-head 32 axially movable relatively to the drum 5 and connected by a rod 39 with a second torque-head 38. A feed gripper 37 is reciprocated by a link 35 from the head 32. When the electromotor 1 is energized and the chains a, b are tightened the drum 5 is rotated and moved axially and the heads 32, 38 are moved to the right, Fig. 2. An arm 32b moves a roller 44 actuated by a cam 45 through rods 41, 41a to close the torque-heads. The drum 5 effects the twisting and axially moves the wire. A mass 11 is raised by a wire 30 and a lever 26 engages a detent 27b and the tension is held on by the lever 26a engaging a detent 21a. When the drum 5 reaches its end position the collar 22 engages the lever 24 to release the detent 21a freeing the lever 26a and releasing the tension on the chains. A spring 29 moves the drum 5 and the heads 32, 38 to the left and the feed head 34 to the right and the pawl 37 clamps and feeds the twisted wire. A rod 28 actuates the lever 27 and the detent 27b frees the lever 26 and lets the mass drop to engage the lever 26a with detent 21a to apply tension to the chain. Twisted lengths are ejected by rollers 50, 56 controlled by linkage 52 from a lever 48. When the end of the wire allows a roller 47 to drop, a lever 46 actuates the lever 48 to release the roller 50. The wires may be vibrated during twisting by electromagnetic means, Fig. 12 (not shown), or mechanically, Fig. 11 (not shown). The wires may be sheared by a foot operated guillotine, Fig. 18, (not shown).
