Abstract

776,855. Ammunition projectiles. VERWALTUNGSGES. DES WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Aug. 22, 1955 [Aug. 23, 1954], No. 24136/55. Class 9 (1). An anti-aircraft projectile has a body 1 of highly ductile steel fitted with an impactoperated fuze 2 and primer 3 to detonate the high-explosive-incendiary filling 4 which may be cyclonite mixed with aluminium powder. Beyond the projectile base in an annular extension 5 having a weakening 7 to form a line of fracture at which, after impact, the ring 5 breaks off without shattering to form a missile, which will cut an aperture in a fuel tank wall sufficient to release the fuel and cause ignition thereof by the burning explosive. The external and internal diameters and height of the ring are preferably in the proportion 1 : 0.7: 0.4.
