Abstract

776,800. Motor vehicle driving gear. BERGERAT, MONNOYEUR & CIE., H. March 1, 1955 [March 5, 1954], No. 6034/55. Classes 79(1), 79(2) and 79(4). A vehicle has balance beams 3 each carrying a wheel or an endless track sprocket and each being pivotally mounted on the vehicle chassis about a transverse axis which coincides with the axis of a main drive shaft 8, each beam being pivoted on a hollow trunnion 13 detachably secured to the vehicle chassis, the main drive shaft being journalled in the vehicle chassis and being connectible to a coaxially disposed stub shaft 9 journalled within the hollow trunnion and carrying a sprocket 10 to transmit drive to the wheel or endless track sprocket. Each beam 3 forms a hollow casing with a bearing 17 to surround the trunnion 13 which is secured to the side of the chassis by means of bolts 14 and an inturned flange the shoulder 16 of which engages an inturned flange on the beam 3 to hold machined surfaces 6 and 7 on the beam and chassis in sliding contact. Registering within the inturned side flange of the trunnion 13 and secured by bolts 22 to the chassis is a plate 21 supporting another plate 21a on posts 20 ; the plates 21, 21a carrying bearings for the stub shaft 9. The shaft 9 is coupled to a steering clutch 27 and a brake drum 28, of conventional design, with a shaft 8 connected to a bevelled driving gear wheel 26.
