Abstract
776,793. Tinning metal strip. LAWRENCE HOLDINGS (OVERSEAS), Ltd. Aug. 26, 1955 [Sept. 27, 1954], No. 27837/54. Class 82(2) A strip tinning apparatus in which the strip is continuously drawn through fluxing, tinning and washing baths has means to regulate the thickness of the solder coating. The strip S passes over a roller 1 into the flux bath 2 through a wiper 14 and thus put of the bath via two rollers 12, 13 mounted on levers 11 pivoted at 9 so that they can be bought into position for easy threading. The strip thus passes into an electrically heated, thermostatically controlled solder bath 15 and under an immersed roller 26, the latter having paddle members on each side to keep the solder agitated. The strip thus passes up through a shoe 16 which regulates the coating thickness, over an adjustable roller 30, into a water bath beneath roller 33 and out under a squeegee 40. The shoe 16 is pivoted about a spindle 23 so that it may be lifted from the bath by a hand wheel 28. By suitable adjustment of the top roller 30 in the slot 32 the strip can be positioned in the shoe to give an even coating to each side. The shoe (see Fig. 3) comprises a back plate 25a and a front plate 16a spaced therefrom by strips 16b. The immersed roll 26 is carried by the shoe assembly. Ribs 16j are provided on the shoe and are intended to be submerged in the solder even when the shoe is raised for threading, thus keeping it at the correct temperature for immediate coating. The top and bottom of the back and front plates are chamfered for easy entry and exit of the strip.
