Abstract
776,397. Parachutes. IRVING AIR CHUTE OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd. April 6, 1955 [May 17, 1954], No. 10108/55. Class 4. A parachute canopy comprises a plurality of interconnected radial gores and skirt portions secured continuously around the peripheral edge of the gores so as to form, when deployed, downwardly directed convergent air deflecting surfaces, characterized by air vents, located at the junction of the gores with the skirt portions and so disposed that air will discharge through them from the canopy in an upward direction. A general arrangement is shown in Fig. 1, skirt portions 11 being attached to each gore 10 and forming a vent 27a. The shroud lines 55 are secured to the edges of the portions 11, as at 56, Fig. 5. The peripheral end of a gore is shown in Fig. 5, the end being bounded by tapes 51, 52, 24 and 50. The portion 11 shown folded on the dotted line is bounded by tapes 57, 54, 51, 25, 50 and 54. The gore is made from pieces taped together by a number of tapes, e.g. tape 26 and others parallel to it, spaced at intervals up to the crown.
