776,170. Stringed musical instruments. BENNETT, W. H. July 21, 1955 [Aug. 11, 1954], No. 23292/54. Class 88 (2). Two mutually perpendicular fretwork members 18 and 19 extend across the waist section of a violin or like instrument. In addition to the bass bar 31, two treble bars 32 are provided, and there are external bars 35, 37, 38 on the front of the instrument and a single bar 39 on the back. The end blocks 45, the corner blocks 51, the sound-post 54, and the thickened edges of the front and back plates are grooved, and each end block 45 is formed with three projecting lobes 46. Two sets of stays 47 are mounted on the ribs, one set being secured to the front plate and the other set to the back-plate.
