Abstract
1,135,367. Hitch pins for stringed instruments. D. H. BALDWIN CO. 7 Aug., 1967 [15 Aug., 1966], No. 36158/67. Heading G5J. In a conventional stringed instrument, e.g. a grand piano, having a string plate 7 the hitch pins 27 extend perpendicularly from the string plate and are substantially cylindrical in those portions which extend beyond the plate and engage the strings 28 which can be slidably adjusted thereon. The pins, which may be made of hardened steel, may be press-fitted into holes in the plate. They may be hollow, longitudinally slit (Fig. 3, not shown) and have slightly larger diameters than the holes. A bridge 18 is attached to a sound board 3 and the lengths of the strings from the pins 27 to the bridge bear a substantially harmonic relationship to the speaking lengths of the strings which extend from the bridge to agraffes (21) (Fig. 1, not shown). By having the strings slidably adjustable on the pins 27, the need for a rearward agraffe (20) (Fig. 1, not shown) is eliminated.
